POSITION OVERVIEW:

  • We are looking for a Director of Commercial Growing (US) and this candidate can be located remotely.

  • This position is key to the implementation, creation, launch, and continuous improvement of the Hawthorne Garden Company’s hydroponics commercial sales team in the US.
  • This experienced salesperson’s primary responsibility is to drive top-line growth of the all-purpose hydroponic gardening supply commercial segment for all Hawthorne brands.
  • This person needs to have the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to develop presentations, proposals, and solutions for our commercial accounts.
  • They will work closely with Marketing by​​ driving Hawthorne brands and our capabilities thru key events, publications, industry-leading operators.
  • This person will work closely with R&D to help to guide solutions/products needed by hydroponic growers (product development collaboration) and to provide feedback on our existing products and or competitor products currently in the marketplace.
  • They will be expected to work in partnership with Customer Service and Operations teams to ensure the highest levels of service are met for our commercial customers and growers.
  • This individual is expected to lead the strategic selling relationship of Hawthorne’s leading US-based commercial accounts and create total selling solutions programs to help Hawthorne drive top-line sales growth.

In this role you will:

  • Increase top-line sales through strategic selling across all Hawthorne brands.
  • Develop, implement and manage annual business growth plans and commercial growth initiatives.
  • Target, acquire and drive revenue with top commercial hydroponic grower relationships.
  • Work closely with the key retail accounts that supply products to growers.
  • Work with all cross-functional teams to effectively manage technical service requirements of commercial growers, order replenishment, and recommendations.
  • Develop and implement best-in-class service programs to be easy to do business with commercial accounts.
  • Coordination and collaborate with Brand Marketing, Operations, and R&D to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Help manage the budget process year to year based on the fiscal requirements of the Hawthorne business.

The perfect person will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree focused in Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of hydroponics growing experience, preferably within a large hydroponic commercial and/or retail enterprise.
  • Expert level understanding of all inputs involved in commercial hydroponics including.
  • Nutrients, Growing Media, Lighting, Systems, Air, Water & Pesticides and how they work with various plants.
  • Strong understanding of plant genetics. Essentially knowing how the genetics perform (ex. their specific cultivation needs, and their unique attributes (for example, flower yields, extract yields, and other plant-derived bi-products), breeding challenges, and overall benefits.
  • High product knowledge (both application and features and benefits) and understanding of commercial grower needs.
  • Fully immersed and understanding of all hydroponics growing methods and techniques for large-scale operations.
  • Strong hydroponics industry insights and relationships.
  • Understanding of commercial grower operations financial goals, targets, and key performance indicators.
  • P&L expertise and budgeting.

  • Ability to identify (potential) problems and propose solutions in a clear concise way is essential.
  • The successful individual must be aggressive and have the ability to think strategically, communicate flawlessly, collaborate consistently, listen actively, give clear, consistent direction, work efficiently and foster teamwork.
  • Ability to interpret information and translate it into actionable recommendations is a must.
  • Strong computer skills in Excel, PowerPoint are necessary.
