JOB TITLE:
- Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the development, implementation, and documentation of policies, procedures, internal controls, and training programs to help ensure effective management of risk and compliance with regulatory obligations.
- Responsible for following, enforcing, and communicating all internal and OSHA-required safety procedures. Create and maintain KPIs related to lab safety and compliance with lab cleanliness and OSHA standards.
- Coordinate the safety program including written programs, training, inspections, and committee activities to ensure that local and federal requirements are met.
- Coordinate all hazardous waste disposal, documents related to disposals, and biohazardous waste management.
- Conduct inspections and audits of facilities, processes, internal controls, and training programs within assigned areas of the organization.
- Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
- Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety, and Health, or a related field required.
- 2-4+ years of experience in Occupational Safety and/or Environmental, managing hazardous waste, biohazardous waste, and preparing DOT or equivalent shipping papers.
- Extensive knowledge of food safety, security, and GMP guidelines.
- Previous commercial cannabis growing experience preferred.
- Understanding of good lab practices and regulations related to the city, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
- Familiar with EHS programs and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DTSC, and HMBP standards.
- Experience writing and updating SOPs and other EHS policies and procedures.
- Strong collaboration, influencing, and problem-solving skills, team members, and ability to contribute positively to the morale of the team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
- The ability to perform various physical activities, including lifting, standing, and squatting.
- The ability to work in extreme weather.
- The ability to wear personal protective gear during portions of the day
- The ability to lift 20-50 pounds as needed.
