JOB TITLE:
- Government Affairs
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attends meetings of cannabis trade associations.
- Track legislation and regulations, notifying appropriate departments of pending action items.
- Monitor, report, and document on multiple municipal, local, and regional legislative calendars.
- Provide operational support and administrative duties for key leadership such as preparing regular reports, trackers, maintaining online file databases, scheduling meetings, and compiling notes.
- Creating comprehensive political, legislative, and regulatory goals, strategies, and plans on a state-by-state basis.
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with industry lobbyists, elected officials, regulators, and staff in order to advocate effectively for the legislative and regulatory policy goals of the company.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with legislators, regulators, other policymakers, and their staff; travel as needed for meetings with officials.
- Organize and maintain strategic partnerships and coalitions, and develop and carry out strategies to influence trade associations and other advocacy organizations.
- Executing on system for tracking the execution of key market policy status, strategies, initiatives, and projects.
- Introduces legislative and public policy changes that will support company operations.
- Performs other duties as required.
EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong understanding of and experience with public policy, political and campaign advocacy, public affairs programs, and campaign management concepts.
- Experience with drafting policy documents, factsheets, and State legislation.
- Legislative, regulatory, and political advocacy experience.
- Ability to simultaneously track, manage and prioritize engagements in multiple states.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in law or policy-related discipline preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office, Highly Proficient in MS Excel.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong government contacts at local, state, and federal levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build strong partnerships across all areas and levels of the organization.
- Ability to think strategically and develop summaries of complex issues.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must pass any and all required background checks.
- Must be and remain compliant with any and all legal or company regulations for working in the industry.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must be willing to travel to various locations to attend meetings and press releases, give speeches, and attend events and community activities.
