JOB TITLE:

  • Microbiologist

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures to fulfill the requests of the customer.
  • Reports test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures to ensure that all samples are completed within a specific time frame.
  • Analyze samples consisting of a variety of matrices and cross-trained on various laboratory technologies including, but not limited to, bacterial and fungal plating and PCR.
  • Provide scientific interpretation of results to supervisor, management, or customers as requested.
  • Maintain a sterile work environment and undergo cleaning procedures as necessary, to ensure ongoing proper workflow. Report contamination issues to the supervisor.
  • Prioritize samples and provide guidance and support to the sample prep team for assigned analysis.
  • Research new technologies and methodologies to improve laboratory processes and techniques and make recommendations to supervisors.
  • Assist with proper sample and laboratory waste disposal according to appropriate regulations.
  • Prepare microbiological reagents or culture materials.
  • Prepare microbiological standards and evaluate system performance.

EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 years of microbiology experience is preferred.
  • Food science and/or environmental experience is a plus.
  • Exposure to the cannabis industry is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or related sciences.
  • At least 1 year of microbiology experience in a regulated or high-throughput laboratory environment is preferred. 
  • Cannabis laboratory experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively work, problem solve, and communicate with multiple levels of the organization.
  • Strong understanding of standardized test methods for microbiology (AOAC, BAM, USDA, FDA, EPA, etc).
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must pass the required background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to spend long periods of time on feet.
  • Must be willing to work with hazards of exposure to infectious material (i.e., viruses, bacteria, TB) and acids and toxic reagents.
  • Able to lift 25 pounds.
