JOB TITLE:

  • Payroll Manager

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  • Understands technical tax issues and applies Internal Revenue Code and tax regulations.
  • Oversees the supervision of staff, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; manages and develops the team to ensure high-quality service is provided to all employees.
  • Develops best practice payroll policies with particular emphasis on compliance, the internal control environment, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, personnel law, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives, and standard operating procedures.

EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
  • Accounting experience in the cannabis industry is required.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong accounting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office – with emphasis on Excel.
  • High-level critical thinking, attention to detail, mathematical, language, and reasoning skills.
  • Must pass any and all required background checks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Be able to stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time, bend, kneel, squat, and twist.
