DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance for a variety of clients in the cannabis industry.
- Use expertise in taxation to oversee, manage, and complete tax projects.
- Review business tax returns including 1120, 1120S, and 1065.
- Proactively build relationships and communicate effectively with the client to provide superior client engagements.
- Keep up-to-date on current tax procedures and changes in tax regulations/laws.
- Actively participate in internal and external tax training.
- Plan and manage budgets, billing, and staffing.
- Manage engagements effectively to ensure exceptional client service.
- Train, supervise, and delegate assignments to tax seniors and staff.
- Review complex tax returns and associated work papers prepared by staff and senior associates and provide timely, specific, and meaningful feedback.
- Prepares complex multi-state business, fiduciary, and individual tax returns.
- Research and consult on various tax matters, respond to IRS and other tax authority inquiries when requested, and make recommendations to the client for consideration.
- Files federal, state, and local tax documents by preparing property tax returns, state pages, and federal, state, and municipal returns, extensions, and quarterly payments.
- Identifies profitability of potential mergers and acquisitions by analyzing tax information; calculating key ratios; and identifying areas of tax savings.
EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
- 5-7+ years of public accounting experience with an emphasis on preparation and/or review of work papers, complex income tax returns, research, and projections (corporate, partnerships, LLCs, and individuals).
- CPA License.
- Ability and/or desire to work in the cannabis industry.
- Knowledge of 280E and other tax-specific nuances with companies working in this industry.
- Strong experience with tax planning and tax strategy.
- Technical and tax research skills.
