JOB TITLE:

  • Underwriter

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review applications and perform initial underwriting for cannabis and hemp industry accounts.
  • Identifying and gathering relevant account information for new business and renewal policies.
  • Develop and manage assigned agency relationships with producers and customers through visitations and regular customer contact.
  • Issue endorsements, policy changes, and account renewals.
  • Monitor production, hit ratios, renewal retention ratios, the spread of risk, and other production and quality measures.
  • Act as a resource for others in the department and provide direction to underwriters and support staff as needed.
  • Generate competitive and comprehensive insurance proposals and work with the internal sales team to leverage assets and identify how to obtain the business.
  • Evaluate, select, and price policies for assigned agencies to achieve underwriting objectives with a focus on new business.

EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of Underwriting experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Risk Management and Insurance Degree Preferred), High School Diploma only will be considered based on industry experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience and demonstrated proficiency in a Commercial Lines Underwriting role focused on P&C lines of coverage within a Wholesaler or MGA insurance brokerage firm.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as superior client service and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong math and analytical skills with an emphasis on problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated efficiency with computer systems and software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires moderate to long periods of time sitting at a desk, using a computer monitor and keyboard, speaking on the phone, etc.
  • Requires short to moderate (intermittent) periods of time standing or walking, often to and from meetings that require sitting.
  • Requires very occasional lifting of objects (mostly documents, laptop equipment, etc.) that weigh fewer than 20 pounds.
