- Reports to: Lab Director
Job Description:
- The Laboratory Manager manages day-to-day operations, sampling, and inventory control.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Understands, adheres to, and strictly enforces the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Complies with and supports the continuous improvement of the ISO 17025 accredited laboratory Quality Management System (QMS).
- Knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Ensures that the laboratory and environmental conditions are appropriate for the testing performed and provide a safe environment.
- Consults with the Laboratory Director to develop and implement new laboratory methods, techniques, and protocols.
- Oversees laboratory employees; if necessary, provide remedial training or continuing education to improve skills.
- Meets challenges with resourcefulness; generates suggestions for improving work; develops innovative approaches and ideas; presents ideas and information to the team and assists in other areas as assigned.
- Controls costs. This includes managing expenses related to operational activities, such as equipment, labor, and supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in natural science and have at least three years of laboratory experience in analytical chemistry or toxicology/diagnostic testing or related field.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication.
- Must have prior supervisory experience, strong leadership skills, and be able to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency and knowledge working with analytical instruments such as ICP/MS, HPLC, GC, GC/MS, and/or LC/MS/MS instrumentation and troubleshooting as and when required.
- Experience with ISO/IEC 17025, or similar certification process.
- Able to work nights and weekends – overtime.
- Must have excellent references.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
- Experience working with Agilent instrumentation.
- Experience with different LIMS.
- Cannabis Lab knowledge and experience a plus.
