JOB TITLE:

  • Tissue Culture Lab Technician

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform tissue culture and micropropagation methodologies for mass-scale clone production.
  • Help execute cultivation methods for efficient, high-throughput propagation.
  • Maintain a clean laboratory area and follow cleaning procedures.
  • Assure cleanliness of glassware, plastic ware, and other supplies as needed.
  • Responsible for the operations of the Tissue Culture/Genetic Assay Lab.
  • Increase knowledge and skills to improve and stay up to date with the most advanced techniques utilized in Micropropagation and Genetic Assays of Cannabis.
  • Oversee the collection and care of plants/plant material during the course of Micropagation
  • Maintain crop and breeding records.
  • Ensure that operation is compliant with local, state, federal, and environmental regulations.
  • Work with the production manager and lab supervisor to troubleshoot problems in the propagation pipeline and develop effective solutions.

EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate or Bachelors’s Degree in a relevant field or demonstration of relevant knowledge
  • 1-year experience in plant tissue culture, nursery production, plant propagation, in a sterile laboratory setting, or some combination thereof is strongly preferred.
  • Experience producing clones in a commercial nursery.
  • Must have excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to take instruction, follow protocols, willingness to learn new skills, and detail-oriented.
  • Working familiarity with electronic inventory management systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 lbs to a minimum height of 5 feet and able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet, with or without mechanical assistance.
  • Must be able to work seated/standing as appropriate at workstations for extended periods of time, maintain body equilibrium while climbing ladders, stairways, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, and use hands/fingers to hold, grasp, turn, pick, pinch frequently/constantly to complete tasks.
  • Must be able to handle organic matter daily, able to wear PPE as appropriate (eye, face, hand, arm, head, foot, body, fall protection), and able to be exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions while wearing PPE (95 degrees or greater).
  • Must have visual acuity with/without job aids to perform activities such as; reading, viewing a computer terminal, visual inspection involving small parts/details. Clarity of vision at 20 ft or more in day and night/dark conditions.
  • Must be able to speak and communicate verbally at conversation levels with co-workers, vendors, etc. (Moderate noise).
