JOB TITLE:

  • Nursery Technician / Supervisor

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Run the Nursery environments relative to Cannabis Quality and Seed Production objectives.
  • Establish the controlled environment set points and integrate a monitoring strategy for quality assurance.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, coordinate, and/or facilitate repairs on greenhouse equipment.
  • Ensures crops are healthy and free of pests, diseases, and contamination.
  • Assist in the planning and execution phases for new greenhouse construction projects and other technology upgrades to existing infrastructure.
  • Work with the Nursery Manager, Seed Production Supervisor(s), Seed Production Manager, and Nursery Director to help drive process improvement and eliminate waste as part of the broader corporate continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Following strict biosecurity protocols, and maintaining the sanitation of tools.
  • Affixing Metrc tags to plant lots and individual plants.
  • Scouting for and reporting any pests and pathogens (powdery mildew, botrytis).
  • Participate in the IPM program and work with the Plant Health Supervisor, IPM Manager, Seed Production Supervisor, Seed Production Manager, and Nursery Manager to discuss strategies for improving and maintaining overall plant health.
  • Assist in evaluating current greenhouse cultivation methodologies/equipment and suggest changes to processes or upgrades to hardware/equipment when applicable.
  • Understanding of greenhouse physical infrastructure systems, both with commercially available systems as well as emerging product lines.

EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Agribusiness, Crop Science, or a similar field.
  • 5-10 years experience in a commercial greenhouse environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with team leadership and basic personnel management.
  • Knowledge of plant biology, fertility, horticulture, and agriculture.
  • Knowledge of Cannabis pests and diseases.
  • Knowledge of full-cycle cannabis cultivation.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with a range of team members, collaborators, and outside contractors.
  • Manage time effectively to meet deadlines and time-sensitive tasks.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with information management systems and MS Office.
  • Understanding of greenhouse HVAC systems.
  • Ability to train and manage multiple entry-level employees in their daily Nursery-related activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. 
  • The employee is frequently required to stand and sit for long periods at a time; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. 
  • Manual dexterity is essential to this position. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
  • The employee must frequently lift or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds, preferably utilizing partner lift. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
